Tips and Insights
for Effective Gospel Conversations
Some of our Best Practices and Lessons Learned along the way are cataloged here.
In a Nutshell:
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
— Hebrews 4:12
Tips and Insights that have Served Us Well
Our ministry has led thousands to Christ using this approach.
Here are a few things we have learned along the way:
Be “Good News” Christians. Focus on Love and let the Holy Spirit do the convicting. Remember… Lost people act like lost people.
Avoid deep theological discussions or debates. If the Holy Spirit leads you in that direction, try to separate yourself from the booth area so as to not be a distraction to your teammates.
Work in pairs with one person leading the Conversation and the other providing prayer cover, helping with bracelets and pamphlets when there’s a large group and intercepting distractors and interrupters (“blocker” role).
Keep in mind that faithful members of liturgical/Catholic religions (and even Baptists) can still be sitting in church as lost as ever.
Be sensitive to other cultures and upbringing. What we are doing may be foreign or unbelievable to them. For example, in some countries giving away free gifts is a common ruse to get you to accept it and then insist that you now must pay for it.
When you encounter folks that are saved, encourage them to take some pamphlets and bracelets and use them to lead others to Christ.
When someone does pray, encourage them to take a pamphlet and use it to recall what the beads mean and the scriptures behind them. Also point out the GREEN panel and point out the importance of finding a church family to help them in their new journey.
When someone is lost, but doesn’t pray with you, encourage them to take a pamphlet and put it somewhere that they can find it. Later, when God’s Spirit begins working in their heart and soul, they can read it and let it speak to them. The prayer on the “This is Your Moment” panel is between them and God and they can receive Christ on their own.
Don’t’ worry if you are nervous or not able to get anyone to pray with you – if you can simply share these Scriptures with a lost person, it will not return void and you have served your Lord.
Pray, Pray, Pray. For the lost we encounter. For each other. For God to bless this endeavor.
