Gospel Conversations Using Bracelets
In a Nutshell:
This is our approach to sharing Jesus using Gospel Bracelets, the Step Up and Change Your Destiny pamphlets, and the Quick Reference Card. This approach is ideal when operating out of a dedicated booth or tent (Booth Evangelism) but can sometimes be effective when conducting Mingle Evangelism. Note that Pocket Full of Change Ministries can make these resources available at cost or share our “recipe” for making these bracelets yourself.
He (Jesus) said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”
Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
— Mark 16:15 and 20
The Bracelet, Pamphlet, and Quick Reference Card
These beaded bracelets go by many names: Gospel, Liberty, Freedom, Love
Ultimate Goal: to Help the lost become Followers of Jesus (aka Christians)
Point of the Bracelets: to Initiate a Gospel Conversation
Point of the Gospel Conversation: to Speak the Scriptures
Billy Graham used them with children to tell the Gospel story, but
For adults, we use them to Speak the Scriptures of Salvation…
They will not return void (Isaiah 55:11(God speaking) so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.)
4 Step Process for Bracelet Evangelism
Step 1: Offer a free bracelet. “May I give you a free Liberty Bracelet?” or “We’re giving away free Love Bracelets. May I tie one on your wrist?”
Step 2: (as you are tying) Ask “May I share the Meaning of the Beads with you?” (more on this next)
Step 3: Find out if they are Saved. Asking if they’re saved may not give you that answer. They may think they’re saved because they’re church-goers or they don’t even know what “saved” means. So try this:
“May I ask you 2 questions?”
1. If you were to die right now, where would you go? If their answer includes “to Heaven” ask #2.
2. If God were to ask, “Why should I let you into Heaven?” what would you say? If their answer isn’t some form of “because I called on Jesus to be my Savior” then they are NOT saved.
Step 4: If they are not saved, say “May I lead you in a prayer right now to call on Jesus as your Lord and Savior?” and then lead them in that prayer (more on this later too). If they’re not ready, show them how to use the pamphlet to meet Jesus when they are ready.
Bonus Step: (if they accept Jesus): Celebrate!!! The angels in Heaven certainly are!
Explaining the Beads
The three inside panels of the Step up and Change Your Destiny pamphlet provide this scripture-based explanation of the bead colors. They are organized in a sequence that the “still, small voice” of the Holy Spirit can use to open the listener’s soul to the miraculous glory of God’s love, His provision for our eternal relationship with Him in Heaven, and His ways of giving us ‘heaven on earth” in the meantime.
GOLD: Heaven Has Streets of GOLD (the “God” bead)
God has plans for your life, to prosper you and give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
His plans include you joining Him in Heaven.
God loves you so much that He sent His only son Jesus so that whoever believes in Him will have everlasting life. (John 3:16).
DARK: They Walk About In DARKness (the “Sin” bead)
God is light. In Him there is no darkness (1 John 1:5).
Sin surrounds us in darkness.
The word “sin” originated from an archery term that means missing the mark (or bullseye).
… all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
The bad news: … the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23a)
RED: Jesus Shed His RED Blood (the “Jesus” bead)
…the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:17)
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved! (Romans 10:9-10)
WHITE: Sin Washed WHITE as Snow (the “Salvation” bead)
The good news: … the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)
All who call on the name of Jesus will be saved. (Romans 10:13)
Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow... (Isaiah 1:18)
Be ready to say one of both of these things if the conversation goes in that direction:
The moment you pray to follow Jesus, you’re forgiven once and forever. From then on, when you sin, confess with a sincere heart (I John 1:9) and make amends, but your eternity is secure and His love never falters. He will transform your life into something even more spectacular!
If you have never made the eternity-changing decision to follow Jesus, have a look at the panel entitled “This is Your Moment” and let God’s Holy Spirit speak to you.
GREEN: Grow In Grace and Truth (the “Discipleship” bead)
LOVE: Your love relationship with God grows through loving Him more with your entire heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loving your neighbor as yourself. (Luke 10:27)
PRAYER: Begin talking with God. Prayer is the Bible word for having a conversation with God. Pray all the time. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
MEDITATION: Experience the presence of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Be still and know He is God. (Psalms 46:10) Meditate on His works, words, love, and nature.
BIBLE STUDY: Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Everything you want to know about God is in the Bible. Ask God for wisdom and follow it.
CHURCH: Gift yourself by meeting regularly with other believers. (Hebrews 10:25) Church means love, laughter, fellowship, and Biblical teachings. Let God’s people love and guide you through all the steps of your life.
The “Salvation” panel:
This is Your Moment to Step Up and Change Your Destiny!
It’s actually 3 steps:
Admit to God that you are a sinner and need His forgiveness.
Believe in your heart that Jesus is God’s Son, that He died on a cross in your place and God raised Him from the dead.
Confess with your mouth that you want Jesus to be your personal Lord and Savior.
Now earnestly PRAY something like this:
Dear God, I believe in You and that Your son Jesus died on a cross for me and You raised Him from the dead (help me with any part of me that does not believe). I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. Jesus, be my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
CONGRATULATIONS! With this prayer you have begun your life-long journey to follow Christ, rest in God’s love, and grow in God’s Holy Spirit. Now, go back and re-read the Green panel through the eyes of a growing Christian.
Quick Reference Card
There is also this Quick Reference Card that attempts to package all of this into an index card that you can glance at to refresh the process. You can also use the pamphlet itself to jog your memory.
